At long last we have a dozen photos of our week in Hawaii. Highlights were divided between scenes of volcanic activity and bird watching through tropical forests and rocky beach ponds.
The two absolute highlights were the 10 mile round trip walk under moonlight to where molten lava was flowing from the Pu’u’ O’o eruption (slowly making its way to the sea), and the birding walk with naturalist Jack Jeffery through the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge. Jack was the Refuge director for 15 years before he retired.
The next report will be from Malheur NWR in south east Oregon. Our tardiness in posting has been due to exhaustion from the day’s activities compounded by very poor internet services!!
Fantastic and remarkable birds! Love th lava flow too. We have had a wild week weather wise but exciting company as my friends from New York came down here for five days, completely unexpected but delightful company. Children are so polite, matur and good fun. Music making, calligraphy and walking the big drift. They leave tomorrow and we will have to knuckle down to work again. Love Lynne and Garry
