We were fortunate to have access to private land in Warrandyte in Melbourne’s northeast where a wedge tail eagle’s nest was discovered with a pair of chicks occupying it. The nest was huge as the picture shows and was strong enough to survive a ferocious windstorm a couple of weeks ago which blacked out the area for a couple of days.
The first picture shows the larger chick on 22nd of September, with just the head of the smaller bird in the nest slightly to the right. Twenty-five days later they had grown to almost the stage of fledging, and the pictures on that day (15th Oct) show the smaller chick standing and the larger one lying down.
We hope to check their progress again on or around the 22nd Oct.
