Xi’an

To complete the outline of our China trip, we have assembled some photos of our visit to the great city of Xi’an, famous for it’s Terracotta Warriors. The city itself is fascinating – surrounded by a massive wall almost 9 miles around which we rode on hired bicycles on a lovely sunny afternoon. The Bell Tower at night is a wonderful spectacle together with its companion, the Drum Tower. Both are lit up magnificently at night. The Great Mosque which was set up in 742AD and adjacent street market are also unique places full of character and in the case of the Mosque, quiet tranquility.
Of course the standout feature of a visit to Xi’an is the site of the Terracotta Warriors. We were fortunate enough to visit previously in 2006 and had our guidebook signed by the farmer who made the original discovery in his field in the 1970’s. He has since passed away, but the huge site is just as sensational. The few photos posted below don’t really do it justice!
