We have spent the last 2 1/2 days at Savegre Hotel at San Gerardo de Data in the mountains 3 hours plus drive from the capital, San Jose. It is a great place, wonderful accomodation and gardens surrounded by rainforest with walking tracks. And it gets cold at night and rains each afternoon…. However it is home to a huge range of most colourful birds and sits next to the Quetzales National Park at about 7000 ft altitude.
The area is famous for the unique resplendent quetzal, and we were fortunate to get a good view of three yesterday…some photos attached in this blog. And the hummingbirds are everywhere including in the gardens just outside our unit.
We leave tomorrow afternoon for San Jose where we will have a full day guided birding before heading for home on Saturday…….hopefully we can do another post from San Jose before we start our return journey…..
