During February 2024 we headed off to Northern India for a birding tour which encompassed a number of interesting and popular birding sites in the states of Uttar Pradesh (south of New Delhi) and Uttarakhand (foothills of Himalaya). The trip was not without its challenges which included the chaos of road traffic in cities and on frighteningly steep-edged mountain roads. Also the failure of the tour company to provide many of the features of the booked itinerary caused considerable disappointment. As well we both unfortunately returned home several kg lighter with the latter part of the tour interrupted by quite severe digestive complaints!
However despite the challenges we did enjoy photographing a wide range of interesting birds in a number of well know sites which included Keoladeo Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Chambal River, Jim Corbett National Park, Nainital, Pangot and Sattal. And a visit to the Taj Mahal was included which even exceeded our expectation as a bucket-list experience! A selection of the more interesting and impressive birds are here in the gallery.
