In late April 2024 we escaped from cold, wet Melbourne to the great birding town of Chiltern about 3 1/2 hours north. The sunny mid-autumn weather here was most welcome, and it turned out that the birds thought that also! Although we had been here many times in the past, we located a great new (to us) location on the Barnawartha-Depot Road. Here was a very small lake surrounded by Ironbark and Box Eucalyptus trees which attracted flocks of birds, especially reasonably rare parrots such as Swift, Little, and Turquoise. Early in the morning and late afternoon sunshine we were able to set up our deck chairs and enjoy photographing a wonderful parade of birds coming down to drink and bathe! Here are some of what we saw……….
