Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

After a very bad start to our US stay, we have enjoyed travelling on the famous and scenic Parkway from west of Washington through Virginia to North Carolina where were are now staying at Boone. Not the best b&B but does have very good wi-fi so can finally attend to the blog!

Air NZ changed our flights at 1 day notice which took us to Houston instead of LA, and unbeknown to us, landed us at a different airport in Washington at around midnight – so we couldn’t get to our hire car and hotel after 24 + hours of travel!! And on top of that, one of our cases didn’t show up – not a good start! Eventually worked our way through it all and have enjoyed a lovely B&B at Bedford near Peaks of Otter.

Have been 3 nights at a bit less satisfactory one at Boone but surrounds are great including the 5000ft Grandfather Mountain where we saw a lovely swarm of hummingbirds. Otherwise the birding side has been pretty ordinary so far…hopefully Costa Rica after the Viol Conclave will make up for that…..

    1. Sorry we couldn’t take the bear with us, wouldn’t fit into our small car!! We’re in the Deep South now…right amongst the Hilary “deplorables”! I think she got it right….Hope Joe’s dance show in Manchester goes well. We are viol-ing from tomorrow for a week then to Costa Rica…

  2. Hi Petre & Lins,
Sorry to hear about the confusion arriving at a different airport than you anticipated – how
could that possibly happen. Not a good look for Air N.Z, hope they are going to compensate you
in some way for your inconvenience, e.g. first class return to any world location ????.
Hope all goes well for you from now on, enjoy the ongoing experience.

    Regards

    1. Thanks for note Ron, since that initial hiccup all has gone pretty smoothly…have clocked up 1000miles in the car and are now in Great Smokey Mountains on border of North Carolina and Tennessee….will certainly have a go at Air NZ..maybe upgrade to business for return flights ???

      Cheers
