Finally, a few of the 100’s of hummingbird photos from our August Ecuador trip have been posted here! They are wonderful and fascinating birds, absolutely unique, but sorting them out and identifying them is a very big task….this is made especially difficult because of the way in which their feathers display under varying lighting conditions. Their wonderful gorgets completely change appearance when snapped in sun or in shade, so that what could appear vivid green under sunny conditions could look virtually black in the shade. They have all been taken in natural light – mostly flashes weren’t allowed despite advice to the contrary when booking the trip.
Hopefully the photos here show something of how unique and delightful these birds are. It makes us want to start thinking of a second trip, this time maybe to Peru.
To complete the August trip, a belated selection from our birding journey around the marshes near Palo Alto with our good friend Lennie should appear in the next few days and complete the August trip to the Americas.
These pictures are stunning
